General News : MVS/Quickref 7.5 is out now
on 2011/10/7 10:59:34 (271 reads)

Program Enhancements (a full install of R7.5 is required to utilize these new features):

• Support for generic storage group names has been added to the DASD Free Space function. If a storage group name ending with a colon (:) is presented to the DASD Free Space function, that storage group name will be treated as a generic storage group name prefix and all characters before the colon (:) will be used to report on DASD Free Space information for all storage groups whose names match that prefix.

• The DASD Free Space display has been modified so that when a data set name list is requested for a particular volume and then the END command is entered, a return is made to the point in the DASD volume list from which the request was initiated, rather than regenerating the entire DASD volume list again. The PF3= option in the MVS/QuickRef options table must be set to PF3=END in order to assure proper function of this enhancement.

• The QWIEXPYR expiration date utility has been modified to support a new JCL parm, 'WTO'. The 'WTO' parm causes QWIEXPYR to issue a WTO message (QWIKM200) to the z/OS console and job log, documenting the number of days until the license key for MVS/QuickRef expires.

• The DASD Free Space display has been modified so that hitting ENTER while the display is on-screen causes a refresh of the DASD free space data while also maintaining the current vertical scroll position in the output. Prior to this change, the DASD free space display always refreshed so that the current top line on the display was always line one of the generated output.

• Code was added to prevent the occasional issuance of an IEC988I message introduced by IBM in z/OS V1R12. The IEC988I message indicates that a data base was dynamically allocated with "FREE at CLOSE" indicated, but the data base could not be freed because its use count was greater than zero. IEC988I is an informational message only and does not indicate any real problem, but it can be considered a nuisance message in some cases.

• All Fixes issued against R7.4 of MVS/QuickRef have been integrated into this release.

Data Base Content Enhancements:

• Support for z/OS V1R13 has been added.

MVS/Quickref 7.5 now also support z/OS 1.13 messages from this release onwards.

General News

Product Enhancements:

• A new Virtual Exclude facility has been added. This facility enables customers to "logically", rather than "physically", drop selected products from the MVS/QuickRef data base during product installation and at any time afterwards. The Virtual Exclude facility is documented in chapter four of the MVS/QuickRef user's guide in the section "Setting MVS/QuickRef Global Installation Options" and in the description of the VEXDSN= and VEXMBR= items in the MVS/QuickRef data base. A full install of R7.4 must be performed in order to use this new facility.

• The MVS/QuickRef installation assistance dialog, QWIAD, has been completely rewritten from scratch and significantly improved. QWIAD is now much easier to use and to restart if it is interrupted. The new code includes full integration of the new Virtual Exclude facility and the existing QWIKXCLD and QXCLDREX facilities utilized when customizing the MVS/QuickRef data base.

• The number of character sets supported by the USECSID= parameter has been expanded. The complete list of CCSIDs supported is now as follows: 0274, 0277, 0278, 0280, 0284, 0285, 0297, 0420, 0424, 0500, 0819, 0870, 0904, 0908, 0916, 1019, 1047, 1089, 1142, 1143, 1165, and 1193. A full install of R7.4 must be performed in order to pick up this change.

• A new program, QWIEXPYR, has been added to MVS/QuickRef. QWIEXPYR is a standalone program that can be used to determine the number of calendar days until MVS/QuickRef's usage period will expire. QWIKEXPYR is documented in chapter three of the MVS/QuickRef user's guide. It is designed for use by automated operations systems as a means of warning selected system users of the possible pending expiration of MVS/QuickRef's usage period.

• The MVS/QuickRef DASD free space feature will now recover from S0CB abends that may occur when the VTOC on a DASD volume contains a structural error at the moment MVS/QuickRef interrogates that VTOC for DASD free space information.

• The QINFO command has been enhanced to properly report on MVS/QuickRef program locations after the z/OS dynamic LNKLST update facility has been used to modify the system LNKLST configuration.

• All program error correction fixes issued against MVS/QuickRef R7.3 have been integrated into R7.4.

Data Base Content Enhancements:

• The following report provides information regarding changes to the MVS/QuickRef data base. The STATUS column values have the following meanings:

General News : MVS/Quickref 7.3 is out now.
on 2011/2/23 15:43:55 (597 reads)

Product Enhancements:

• Support for z/OS V1R12 has been implemented. On z/OS V1R12 and higher systems, the MVS/QuickRef data base can now be located in the Extended Addressing Space (EAS) on an Extended Addressing Volume (EAV). In order to use this new capability, a full install of R7.3 must be performed.

• The DASD Free Space Data Set Name List display has been enhanced to include these new fields for each data set that is located in the EAS on EAVs: EATTR (NO or OPT), job name of job that created data set, step name of job step that created data set, and the time the data set was created. This new information is only reported on z/OS V1R11 or higher systems, and then only for data sets that are allocated in the EAS on EAVs. A full install of R7.3 must be performed in order to implement this new reporting capability.

• A new option, USECSID=, has been added to the MVS/QuickRef options table QWIKOPTS. If USECSID=Y is set (the default is USECSID=N), then MVS/QuickRef will interrogate the ISPF variable ZTERMCID and use the Character Set ID (CSID) it names to translate certain characters that vary by CSID from their 00037 CSID defaults to their correct mappings in the user's current CSID. See item USECSID in the R7.3 data base for more information about this option. A full install of R7.3 must be performed to use this new facility, AND the user's TN3270 emulator must support setting/changing CSID when logging on to TSO/E.

• When cursor-driven invocation is used to invoke MVS/QuickRef, and the item being looked up is a WTO message number issued by an APF authorized program, MVS/QuickRef will correctly handle the '@', '+', or '*' that preceeds the message number when looking up that message number in the MVS/QuickRef data base. A full install of R7.3 must be performed to use this new facility.

• Certain COBOL compiler messages (IGYXX0208 is an example) are used by the compiler to display secondary messages that begin with DFH or DSN. MVS/QuickRef now detects these compiler messages and will look up the secondary message instead of the COBOL compiler message in < the MVS/QuickRef data base. A full install of R7.3 must be performed to use this new facility.

• All Fixes issued against R7.2 of MVS/QuickRef have been integrated into this release.
